The Pontian district is located southwest in the state of Johor. Interestingly enough, the name Pontian is used in both the names of Pontian Besar and Pontian Kechil, which are the names of two towns in this district. The latter which is approximately 60 kilometres from Johor Bahru and 70 kilometres from Singapore also serves as the district’s capital. Pontian Kechil was previously a fishing village, however it has now developed into a small town.
