PETALING JAYA (Dec 20): Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) today explained that the linkways from stations to adjacent privately-owned buildings are supposed to be built by the property owners at their cost and according to their construction schedules

This explanation from MRT Corp came about after users of the Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) Line, which commenced operations last Friday (Dec 16), commented that pedestrian linkways were not completed along with the MRT stations.

In a statement today, MRT Corp said the construction schedules of the linkways were beyond its control.

“MRT Corp had during the course of the construction of the SBK Line reached agreements with the owners of several private properties, mostly commercial and mixed development properties that are located adjacent to MRT stations with regards to the construction of linkways.

“On MRT Corp’s part, its stations were to be designed in such a way that would provide entrances to accommodate these linkways,” MRT Corp said.

For Phase One of the SBK Line, the agreed linkways that were not ready for the start operations are between:

* Kampung Selamat Station, and the D’Sara Sentral and SqWhere developments,

* Surian Station, and Sunway Nexis and Tropicana Gardens,

*  Mutiara Damansara Station and Surian Tower (which in turn is linked to the Royale Chulan Hotel, e-Curve, The Curve and IPC), and

* Bandar Utama Station and properties nearby such as 1Utama Shopping Centre and 1Powerhouse.

What to do?

To ease their journey to and from these adjacent buildings, MRT Corp advised commuters to do the following:

a) From the Surian Station, exit the station via Entrance B and access Sunway Nexis on foot.

b) From the Mutiara Damansara Station to e-Curve and other connected buildings, exit via Exit B onto Jalan PJU 7/1, turn into Jalan PJU 7/2 and then access the entrances of the Royale Chulan Hotel and e-Curve on that road. The e-Curve building is connected to other buildings such as the Curve and IPC.

c) From the Bandar Utama Station to the 1 Utama Shopping Centre, exit the station via the pedestrian linkway to the 1Powerhouse building on Persiaran Bandar Utama. Go to the ground floor to board feeder buses T812 from Bandar Utama Station to reach the 1 Utama Shopping Centre Old Wing. Meanwhile, feeder bus T809 from the Mutiara Damansara Station Entrance B can also be used to access the 1 Utama Shopping Centre New Wing. The feeder buses are free until Jan 16, 2017.

Also, the management of the 1 Utama Shopping Centre is operating a complimentary shuttle bus service linking the station with the shopping centre. Information on this service is available at 1Powerhouse.
