PETALING JAYA (May 18): The Construction Industry Development Board of Malaysia (CIDB) wants construction contractors nationwide to be wary of people impersonating as CIDB officers.

In a statement today, CIDB said the impostors will call up construction site contractors promising to solve their foreign workers’ permit issues if the contractors pay a sum of money to them.

The syndicate will identify the contractors who have ongoing projects before contacting them. They will also threaten to reveal evidence of wrongdoings if the contractor refuses to pay, said CIDB.

In some cases, the impostors will also demand money from contractors so they could “help” them get working permits of their foreign workers approved or risk having to pay a bigger sum as penalties under CIDB’s Act 520 (Amendment 2011).

Such blackmailing was revealed after one contractor informed CIDB.

CIDB emphasised that any payment to the board will have to be done via a CIDB state branch or account.

CIDB urged contractors who received suspicious phone calls to record down the impostor’s information, such as full name, phone number and office address, and report the case to CIDB immediately.

The public could also contact CIDB through the Careline 1300-88-2432 or visit the state branches for more information.
