JOHOR BAHRU (Aug 17): Sunway Property’s Sunway Iskandar township development in Johor will be rolling out a retail village, an extreme park and a hotel over the next few years.

With a gross development value of some RM30 billion, Sunway Iskandar is by far the largest township development by Sunway Property, the property arm of Sunway Bhd. The 1,800-acre township consists of six precincts, namely The Lakeview, The Capital, The Parkview, The Riverside, The Seafront and The Marketplace.

“We have launched about RM1.1 billion worth of developments in The Lakeview Precinct over the last three years, and now we want to start something new and exciting in The Marketplace Precinct to complement what we already have in The Lakeview Precinct,” Sunway managing director of the property development division for Malaysia and Singapore Sarena Cheah told reporters at a media briefing today.

Over the next five years, the developer will fork out an investment of about RM400 million on the retail, leisure and hospitality components as well as other community services, she said.

The Lakeview Precinct is the first precinct launched by the company in Sunway Iskandar. The precinct houses the Sunway International School, the first landed property development in Sunway Iskandar Emerald Residences, the first integrated development in the township Citrine at the Lakeview and Citrine Lakehomes.

She added that The Marketplace Precinct is located next to the Coastal Highway Southern Link (CHSL), which is expected to open by end-2017.

“We will be introducing new products and concepts. The first one is a retail village with 500,000 sq ft of gross floor area dubbed Sunway Big Box Village,” she said.

With 2,000 car park bays, the 24-acre Sunway Big Box Village is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2018 (4Q2018).

It is the first large-format retail village in Malaysia and Singapore with an open concept, which provides ample space of 60,000 sq ft to 80,000 sq ft for retailers to “play with the space and showcase their brands”, she noted.

Sunway Iskandar will also see a 32-acre adventure-based extreme park called XPARK to be built adjacent to the Sunway Big Box Village.

Being the first of its kind in Johor and Singapore, XPARK will feature activities for both adults and children when it is partially open by end-2018, such as Go-Kart, kayaking, glamping spots, long-range archery and a kids pump track.

Sunway Property will be building a hotel that will be linked to the Sunway Big Box Village, thus making the township a destination for lifestyle shopping, leisure and entertainment.

Construction work for the hotel is scheduled for 1Q2018 and will be completed by mid-2019, said Cheah.

Sunway Property will also be introducing several community services such as an infirmary centre in the Citrine Hub and free shuttle bus services after the CHSL is open to the public. it will also have 200 auxiliary police officers by 2020.

The upcoming components are in line with Sunway Property’s strategy to bring in market-driven innovations and community service-centric fundamentals to contribute towards the holistic growth of Sunway Iskandar, said Cheah.
