Johor Sultan’s daughter now chairs both Berjaya Assets, REDtone

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 5): The Sultan of Johor’s daughter, Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim Ismail, was appointed Berjaya Assets Bhd’s (BAssets) new non-independent and non-executive chairman, effective yesterday.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, BAssets said Tun Aminah has been chairman of telecommunications specialist REDtone International Bhd, a subsidiary of Berjaya Corp Bhd since March 3, 2017.

“She has considerable experience in heading private organisations across a broad range of industries,” it said.

Berjaya Corp holds a 16.81% stake in BAssets, while the Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ismail is the second largest shareholder of BAssets with a 10.09% stake after acquiring 80 million shares, raising his total held to 120 million shares.

BAssets owns Berjaya Times Square Sdn Bhd, BTS Car Park Sdn Bhd, Berjaya Waterfront Sdn Bhd, Berjaya Assets Food Sdn Bhd and Sublime Cartel Sdn Bhd. The group also owns 65% of Natural Avenue Sdn Bhd, which operates number forecast lotteries in Sarawak.

Outside the corporate world, Tun Aminah is president of the Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club. She is also the patron of SPCA Johor Bahru and the chairperson of the Johor Cerebral Palsy Association, BAssets said, adding that the 31-year-old royal is a graduate of the La Salle School of Arts in Singapore.

BAssets shares slid two sen or 1.72% to close at RM1.14 yesterday, for a market capitalisation of RM1.36 billion.
