PETALING JAYA (Feb 26): The largest nationwide home exposition, which is organised by the federal and state government housing agencies, is set to kick off at the Ipoh Convention Centre in Perak from March 1 to March 5.

Named “Ekspo Jualan Perumahan Ke Arah Sejuta lmpian, Alami Gaya Hidup Sejahtera”, the nationwide expo is a joint initiative between Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, the National Housing Department (NHD), Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia, Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB), 1Malaysia Housing Projects for Civil Servants (PPA1M) as well as state government agencies.

“The home expo is organised in line with the National Housing Policy’s objective in providing adequate, comfortable and affordable housing for the rakyat. It is also in line with the federal government's target of building affordable homes for the rakyat nationwide during the implementation of the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK 11),” PR1MA CEO Datuk Abdul Mutalib Alias told the media at a press conference today.

“Affordable housing is a high priority for the government and as such, the various federal and state agencies are collaborating to support the government’s aspiration and commitment to deliver affordable houses in the whole country. This expo is aimed at increasing ownership among Malaysians from all income levels, especially for the lower income (B40) and middle income (M40) groups,” he added.

He urged the public to come to the expo to check out projects that suited their income and to gather more information on property ownership as strategic partners include Agensi Kaunseling & Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) and Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN).

Financial institutions such as Maybank, CIMB, RHB and AmBank will also be present at the expo to help potential homebuyers check their credit score and loan application.

The whole expo will run from March 1 to April 30, with the first one to take place in Perak, followed by Sabah, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, Johor, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Kelantan, Sarawak and Perlis.

Except for the exhibition at KL and Selangor which will run for nine days, the exhibition in the other states will run for five days — each state will feature the affordable homes from their own local agencies besides those from the federal agencies.

When asked on the sales target and the total homes that will be offered during the entire expo, Mutalib noted that he hopes the expo will achieve as much sales as possible and the inventory of each state expo will be announced closer to the date for the respective states as they would need to collate the information from the various agencies on the amount of homes they will be offering at the expo.

However, he shared that for the first state level expo in Perak which will also see the participation by the Lembaga Perumahan dan Hartanah Perak (LPHP), more than 38,000 homes will be offered to potential homebuyers — with 74% of the homes priced below RM250,000 while another 23% of the units are priced between RM250,000 to RM300,000.

The remaining 3% of the units are priced above RM300,000.

Interested homebuyers are advised to bring documents such as their MyKad, payslip, EPF statement, EA form and bank statement to the expo in order to proceed with the home buying process.
