KUALA LUMPUR (March 23): There is a mismatch between the type of houses built under the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Scheme (PR1MA) and the demand for them.

“In some cases, we were offering too few single storey houses,” PR1MA group chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Mutalib Alias said at a media briefing today, in response to a query on the oversupply of the affordable houses in certain locations.

This is despite the demand of 1.5 million respondents having been recorded via the agency's website when the affordable housing programme was first launched, he noted.

Abdul Mutalib added PR1MA is looking into addressing this issue.

Meanwhile, the agency has seen an improvement in the issue of buyers being unable to obtain bank financing for PR1MA houses.

“Banks have been seen to be stepping up in providing financing to buyers,” Abdul Mutalib said.

PR1MA is offering over 260,000 homes, with some priced as low as RM150,000, at a nationwide home expo known as "Ekspo Jualan Perumahan — Ke Arah Sejuta Impian, Alami Gaya Hidup Sejahtera".

The expo showcases over 600,000 homes offered by various agencies which include Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB), National Housing Department (NHD), 1Malaysia Housing Projects for Civil Servants (PPA1M) and the state government agencies.

It is the largest national housing expo to date and is open to the public from tomorrow until April 1 at the Putra World Trade Centre, KL. Earlier editions of the event have been held in Perak, Kedah, Terengganu and Sabah so far. — theedgemarkets.com
