KUALA LUMPUR (June 21): Penang will now monitor and supervise the 1Malaysia People's Housing Project (PR1MA) in the state.

“Following discussions with Housing and Local Government Minister, Zuraida Kamaruddin, she agreed to let us monitor and supervise the project's progress, instead of the federal agency," Bernama reported Penang’s local government, housing, urban and rural planning committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo telling the media after visiting the PR1MA site at Kampung Kastam, Jalan Bukit Gambir, Penang yesterday.

Jagdeep said there should not be any delay in any housing project, whether it was a state government project or federal affordable housing project in Penang, “for the benefit of the people of Penang”.

The PR1MA project at Kampung Kastam had been approved by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) before GE14.

"For Penang, we received three applications that have been approved, two in Kampung Kastam and the other in Batu Ferringhi," he added.

Kampung Kastam PR1MA project Ideal developer, executive chairman Tan Sri Alex Ooi said the company expected the project to begin by year-end.

He also added that the first phase would comprise 907 units of affordable homes and 257 units of low medium-cost homes a 3.2ha tract in Kampung Kastam
