KUALA LUMPUR (June 22): A political party in Sarawak has made a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the construction of the 22km Nanga Ngungun-Nanga Jagau Road in Kanowit, Sibu.

According to a report by Bernama, a RM50 million fund was approved by the previous Barisan Nasional-led federal administration for the building of the road.

The report to the graft busters was made by Kanowit, Lanang and Sibu PKR divisions.

Kanowit PKR division secretary George Chen told The Star the construction of the road had still not started.

“We, as Sarawakians, want to know where the money has gone to. Has the money been allocated or hijacked by politicians for other areas for development?” he told the media after making the report at the MACC office at Wisma Persekutuan in Sibu.

Chen also added that the ground-breaking ceremony for the road project had been performed in 2012, 2014 and 2016.

The allocation of the fund was announced by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during a state election campaign at Rumah Taboh, Rascom Resettlement Scheme in Nanga Ngungun on March 27, 2016, reported Bernama.
