Penang CM wants special master plan to develop southwest district

PETALING JAYA (June 25): Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has suggested for the development of a special master plan for each district in the state, especially the southwest district, reported StarMetro.

For the past 10 years, the state government has not had a special master plan for the southwest district, which is viewed as marginalised, according to the minister.

“Perhaps the time has come that the state government together with the Penang Island City Council as the local authority, the southwest district and land office and all agencies start a development master plan here (southwest district).

“With this plan, we can focus on the strengths and weaknesses as well as the advantages in this area.

“This way alone, we can realise the potential of the southwest district that can be further developed for the well-being of the local people,” he was reported by StarMetro as saying during his visit to the southwest district and land office recently.

Chow also said he would bring up relevant proposals to the state executive council for discussion and review.

“The state government is also planning to implement a state development plan for the next five to 10 years,” he added.
