KUALA LUMPUR (June 26): Taman Wahyu residents are urging Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to review the proposed mixed development project that involve flood retention ponds here as they feel it will cause problems to them.

According to Kepong Community Service Centre head Yee Poh Ping, the proposed development on Lot PT 26934 Jalan Kepong also involved the Wahyu flood retention pond which may result in flash floods, Bernama reported yesterday.

“It will be good if the project can be cancelled as we have asked the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to study the environmental impacts of the project,” Yee told the media on the proposed mixed development site yesterday.

Yee also touched on problems of high density as the new development would cause traffic congestions.

“Based on the proposed development project, it will involve more than 1,000 new condominium units. Imagine the number of vehicles that will be plying here daily, and that excludes two other condominiums that are under construction nearby,” Yee explained, Bernama reported.

DBKL also issued a statement yesterday to say that the proposed development of the site would not impact the Wahyu and Delima flood retention ponds.

It said that the 2.1 million cu m of flood mitigation capacity would be maintained.

DBKL would also talk with the developers to provide affordable housing as part of the development.

On Saturday, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said the land was sold at below market price to a local company which later sold it to another company to develop the land via a joint venture with a China company.
