KUALA LUMPUR (July 3): Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been arrested at 2.35pm today in relation to SRC International Sdn Bhd and will be charged tomorrow, said the special task force set up to probe 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

"The arrest was made at his home in Jalan Langgak Duta, Kuala Lumpur, today," the task force said in a statement.

"Najib will be charged on July 4, 2018 (tomorrow) at 8.30am in a Kuala Lumpur Court," it added.

SRC International, set up in 2011 by Najib to explore strategic in the energy sector, was formerly a subsidiary of 1MDB before it was placed under the purview of the Finance Ministry, which Najib also helmed.

The four-man task force comprises former attorney-general Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, former Malaysian-Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, newly appointed MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull, and former Bukit Aman Special Branch deputy director Datuk Abdul Hamid Badoor. 

Malaysiakini reported that “Najib might be slapped with multiple charges”.

“He could be charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust (CBT) and Section 23 of the MACC Act,” a source told the news portal.

The source also said Najib could also be charged under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla).
