KUALA LUMPUR (July 7): The construction of The Address in Taman Desa is expected to be temporarily suspended until after a judicial review in Aug 28, according to the Protect Taman Desa Coalition (PTDC).

PTDC member M Gunasekar said that this as a “breakthrough news” for the residents of Taman Desa after battling more than a year to protect their community from overdevelopment.

“We were informed by the DBKL Building Control Department, on Thursday night through a phone message and during a meet up on Friday morning, that the notice [stop-work order] has been prepared and signed, the notice will be delivered to the enforcement officer on Monday,” he told the media after a town hall meeting today.

The coalition expected work at The Address site to be put on hold next week after action taken by the DBKL officer.

PTDC organised a town hall meeting today at Tiara Faber Condominium to announce the news. Around 30 residents from Taman Desa attended the event.

“The ground for this suspension order is not specifically known yet.  However, the decision taken by DBKL is a positive step towards achieving full transparency, accountability and management accordance with the Rule of Law,” said member K Y Chong.

The Address sits on a freehold plot located at Jalan Desa Bakti 2, Taman Desa, few steps away from Tiara Faber Condominium’s entrance.

The construction site is also surrounded by Desa 8 condominium and Desa 1 Residences as well as Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Desa, Sekolah Danau Perdana and Sekolah Menengah Desa Perdana within a 150m radius.

Developed by Kaisar Maxim Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Maxim Group, The Address comprises three towers of more than 30 storeys which is being developed on a 132-ft-wide parcel originally earmarked as a Tenaga Nasional Bhd reserve.

A recent incident in end-January involved a crane at the construction site crashing into the compound of Tiara Faber Condo, damaging a services building.

The incident stoked fear among the residents about the safety aspects of the development.

Meanwhile, The Address is just one of the plots that has on-going development.

“The land in front of this area has been divided to four plots which have been sold for development purposes. Besides the three high-density development of The Address, the rest of the plots have tentative plans for another nine high-rise buildings -- if all developments are realised, there will be a total of 12 buildings erected in between Tiara Faber and the schools opposite us,” added Gunasekar.

Moving forward, he urged Taman Desa residents to continue to support the coalition to protect their community from overdevelopment.

He said the coalition will continue to initiate meetings with DBKL to plead to the authority to review all the other development projects in Taman Desa, and to ensure that overdevelopment does not take place in Taman Desa.
