KUALA LUMPUR (July 16): Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng (pictured) wants the authorities to provide more People’s Housing Project (PPR) Seri Aman homes for residents of Jinjang Utara, here.

Lim said that housing for residents there has been a long drawn out issue “ongoing for 27 years”, The Star reported.

“Out of 1,600 units there, only 1,000 units were allocated to the residents. The other 410 units have been allocated for the Youth Transit Housing Programme housing and another 190 units to be sold to the public.

“However, I have written to KPKT (Housing and Local Government Ministry) to consider releasing the 190 units to the residents.

“The children of the original tenants can only rent the PPR units”, he told The Star.

Lim said the children of the tenants have the right to buy a unit

Kepong Community Centre head Yee Poh Ping said there were about 150 families that still had not moved out of the Jinjang Utara longhouse to the PPR Seri Aman in the vicinity.

He told the daily that the original settlers of the longhouses and the second generation residents were among this group.

“Although 980 families had balloted for units and received their unit numbers since last year, around 150 families have yet to move out of Jinjang Utara.

“This is due to various reasons including failure to qualify for bank loans.

“Now, DBKL has instructed them to move out by the end of the month,” he told The Star.

Both Lim and Yee visited the residents of the Jinjang Utara longhouse recently.
