PUTRAJAYA (July 27): Fire broke out at Cyberview Resort and Spa in Cyberjaya this morning, leaving their function hall and audio visual room destroyed.

No casualties were reported, according to the NST.

The fire, which occurred at 10am, is likely to have been started by a short circuit on the ground floor, in an area closest to the two burnt out areas.

The predominantly wooden build of the resort likely contributed to the spread of the blaze.

A Putrajaya Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said to the NST that a distress call was received at 10.01am, following which firefighters were deployed from Cyberjaya and KLIA, led by PB II Syed Fitri Syed Abbas.

“A team of nine firemen, including two officers, and two fire engines from both Fire and Rescue stations arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later and started dousing the flames,” he said to the daily.

He also noted the flames were towering when the firefighters arrived.

“The fire damaged 70x50 square feet of the resort,” he said.

The cause and estimated losses resulting from the incident is yet to be determined.
