KUALA LUMPUR (July 30): Metro Prima high-rise residents in Kepong worry about congestion and a lack  of parking in their neighbourhood due to the new four-block apartment project being built.

Kepong Community Centre head Yee Poh Ping told the Star that the area, already filled with commercial and high-rise residential units, already faced heavy traffic.

“There are four different high-rise apartments in the vicinity and vehicles are parked everywhere along Jalan Prima 3 that connects Jalan Prima 10.

“The project on Lot 81192 consists of buildings ranging between 14 and 46-storey-high, with 1,370 units. We foresee an additional 5,000 vehicles plying these roads,” Yee told the daily.

“As it is, residents are parking their vehicles at every possible spot they can find here,” he said.

A signboard at the project site states the building will include seven floors of car parks.

Pelangi Magna Apartment joint management body treasurer Chong Yow Leong said there were already issues finding parking in the area.

“It is difficult for two cars to pass through the road at opposite directions, let alone find a space to park,” said Chong to the Star.

Yee said that residents objected to the project, in accordance to Rule 5, a provision requiring the mayor to refer to registered owners of adjacent land. Residents also wish to meet with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officers, in order to discuss the project.

“Many projects that were heavily objected in the past have been approved despite going through the Rule 5 processes.

“They want to raise their concerns verbally now.

“They feel their concerns would be brushed off if the complaints were only in writing,” said Yee to the daily.

Yee said that the 1.7ha land was former government land, and had been bought over by a developer last year for RM46 million.
