Flash flood woes in Taman Melawis to be resolved

KLANG (October 5): Pandamaran assemblyman Tony Leong is working on a resolution to the flash floods  in Taman Melawis, Klang. 

The Star reports that Leong spoke to residents at a meeting organised by the Taman Melawis Residents Association, and asked residents to give him time to solve the flash floods problem in the area, once and for all. 

He cited his previous experience as Klang Municipal Council (MPK) councillor prior to the 14th General Election, where Leong successfully resolved a similar problem at Taman Bayu Perdana.

“We identified the root cause of the flash floods.

“This led to several flood mitigation efforts initiated by MPK and the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID).

“The drains were widened, new retention ponds were built while the existing one was upgraded.

“The problem of flash floods has reduced by 80%,” Leong was quoted as saying by the daily, and added that ongoing works on an underground retention pond would soon resolve the issue entirely. 

He planned to visit Taman Melawis during the next flash flood, in order to ascertain the root of the problem, along with personnel from DID and MPK.

“I hope residents will bear with me while we take the necessary measures to resolve the issue,” he said.
