“In tough times it is the strongest who will prevail but how do we know who are the strongest? It’s precisely to provide the answer to this question that we launched these awards 16 years ago, to provide a guide to the public and homebuyers on the best real estate players in the country,” Ho said.

Presented by City & Country, the weekly property pullout of The Edge Malaysia, the awards is supported by EdgeProp.my, the one-stop property portal that offers free property news, data and analytics.

The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) deputy minister Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad, who was the guest of honour, said both the government and private sector have a collective responsibility to help Malaysians, especially young Malaysians and first-time homebuyers, to own a house.

“The time has passed for us to highlight all the reasons why young Malaysian couldn’t afford a home. We are all by now very familiar with the problems of low income, high prices and difficulties in securing end-financing.

"It is now the time for the market to offer innovative solutions to address this issue and the government is ready to work with private sector to find these solutions. Malaysia can be the first to develop an out of the box way to address the problem of affordability which is in fact a global problem," he said.
