Zuraida: Govt aware of difficulties faced by low-income groups in buying homes

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 22): Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin (pictured) said Putrajaya was aware of the obstacles preventing low-income groups in buying homes.

“The ministry is aware of the imbalance between the socio-economic status and housing options offered.

“As such, we are taking proactive measures to resolve these issues and have identified the four main problems, which are affordability, supply not meeting the demand, lack of innovation in the housing industry, and no integration to identify the housing supply and demand,” The Star newspaper reported her saying today.

Zuraida said in the report that the National Housing Policy 2018-2025 will help enable the B40 and M40 groups to own homes. The policy will be announced soon.

“The policy includes quality housing standards to ensure the homes are not only affordable, but of high quality.

“Emphasis will be on community building as we want the community to take part in the management of their own building,” she said.

Zuraida was speaking to the media at the “topping-off” ceremony of Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Project (PPAM) Residensi Bayu Andaman at Bandar Sentul Utama.

She thanked the Melati Ehsan Group for reviving the Bandar Sentul Utama township development at the event.

Bandar Sentul Utama was launched in 1992 but was abandoned during the Asian financial crisis of 1997.

Meanwhile, Residensi Bayu Andaman was launched on Dec 14, 2016.
