RAWANG (Dec 5): Quicksand! You only think that such a phenomenon only occurs in adventure movies, but quicksand appears to have surfaced in the Bandar Country Homes here.

According to a report by The Star, MPS councillor P Mariammal S. Ponnusamy sank into one on Dec 3 when walking along Jalan Desa to inspect a burst pipe following complaints from residents.

The same report noted that “she was caught waist-deep in the quicksand” before being rescued by her personal secretary Premah Palany and Star Metro chief reporter Edward Rajendra who was accompanying her.

As result, the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) has cordoned off a stretch of the walking path at Jalan Desa, Bandar Country Homes, Phase 4 where the incident took place.

“Our initial investigation reveals that the ground was waterlogged due to continuous flow of water from a malfunctioning underground sewerage pipe.

"We believe this had resulted in the quicksand situation,” MPS Corporate Communications Department director Mohamad Zin Masoad told the daily.
