Mont’Kiara residents request for judicial review on 51-storey development

PETALING JAYA (March 15): Residents of Mont’Kiara are seeking a judicial review on Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) approval for a 51-storey commercial building in the Kuala Lumpur neighbourhood.

Mont’Kiara Community Society chairman Carol Lee told EdgeProp.my that residents want to understand the change of land use for the development site, from a religious institution to commercial, as well as the increase in the land density and plot ratio from 1:4 to 1:8. 

The residents are now waiting for the courts to allow them to file for a judicial review.

Lee said some of the residents who are lawyers have offered to take on the case pro-bono.

In January this year, about 6,000 residents in Mont’Kiara have signed a petition to urge DBKL to suspend the development order of the project.

Among the residents’ concerns were regarding the development’s traffic and environmental impact on the area.

“We want to know the details of the traffic impact assessment and environmental impact assessment. Of course the developer will only release the assessment if it is favourable to them,” said Lee. 

They are also concerned that the 51-storey building will stand out from the rest of the buildings in the area which only have an average height of 30-storeys,

The development, which is located next to Solaris Mont’Kiara, is now undergoing piling works.

“Next to the site are a playground and a tennis court. Imagine what will happen if debris from the construction falls there? We also observed some cracks on the building last week,” she said.
