PETALING JAYA (March 19): A change in the number of digits in account numbers owing to the introduction of a new online system recently resulted in some property owners having to go to a Selangor Land and Mines Office (PTGS) office to pay their quit rent.

Pos Malaysia branches have also stopped taking quit rent payments because of the end of an agreement between the former and PTGS, reported The Star today.

“The problems will be fixed once the Selangor government and Pos Malaysia’s agreement is renewed next month and the quit rent payment system is upgraded at the post office,” PTGS deputy director for registration Yusri Zakariah told the daily.

He also said that the “upgrading of the quit rent collection was done after the introduction of the parcel rent for strata titles that began on June 1 last year”.

“Last year, the account numbers had 21 digits, but now we are changing it to 14 digits in view of the new system, and to make it easier for the public to make online payments,” Yusri explained.

Payments of quit rent and parcel rent can be made at special PTGS payment counters, PTGS branches, all local councils and the new eHasil portal.
