PETALING JAYA (April 30): Equanimity’s new owners has renamed the superyacht Tranquility.

MalaysiaKini reported that the 1MDB-linked luxury vessel, which was bought by Genting Malaysia Bhd on April 3, is no longer known as Equanimity on a ship-tracking website.

The ship's automatic identification system (AIS) was transmitted as Tranquility, reported the Marine Traffic website.

Formerly owned by fugitive Jho Low, who bought it for reportedly US$250 million (RM1.033 billion) with 1MDB funds, it is presently docked in Singapore.

Genting Malaysia was cited saying the asset was purchased to cater to high-rollers.

"The acquisition of the Equanimity forms part of our strategy to differentiate ourselves from our regional competitors by providing us with a unique and competitive edge for our VIP customers.

"We are in the midst of finalising a business model to allow us to use the Equanimity to grow our premium player business," it stated.

Besides leisure and hospitality, Genting Malaysia is part of the Genting Group which operates casinos in Malaysia, Singapore, UK and the US.
