PUTRAJAYA (May 16): Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad said activists who are against the development of Taman Rimba Kiara never tried to meet him to discuss the issue before attacking it in public using the media.

Malaysiakini reported that Khalid was disappointed that the activists whom he described as “friends” had instead made comments after “listening to one side of the story”.

“I don’t know how many times you have gone and met with the Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) residents but you have not sat and met with me even for one minute.

“So how can you make comments after listening to one side of the story?

“If you can go and talk to the resident so many times, why don’t you come and see me? Just come once and I can explain to you and I will show you all the documents.

“This is very, very disappointing because we were all friends,” he told the media here today.

Yesterday, C4 executive director Cynthia Gabriel and prominent lawyer Ambiga Sreenevasan said Khalid is caught in a conflict of interest situation over the redevelopment of TRK.

Khalid said that he “would genuinely try to give them a full answer” if they were to meet him.

He also added that the “situation” has become “embarrassing” but he also respected the activists  and “did not want to rebut them publicly about getting their facts right”, reported the news portal.

“So why don’t you come and see me, rather than come out with a statement in the media to criticise and attack me?” he went on.
