Johor to build more affordable housing on government-owned land

JOHOR BAHRU (Dec 30): Good news for Johor folk. The state government plans to build more affordable housing under its Rumah Mampu Biaya Johor (RMBJ) scheme.

According to a report by The Star, the state authorities have approved 11 government-owned land to be developed for the RMBJ projects.

State housing, communication and multimedia committee chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad told the daily that the first phase will take place in five districts: Kulai, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Johor Bahru and Segamat.

“The development will be carried out in phases. The first project will be carried out by Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor (KPRJ) Sdn Bhd,” Dzulkefly said.

“Previously, we depended on private developers to build 40% of RMBJ units out of their total housing development projects but through collaboration with government-linked companies (GLCs), we can now offer more affordable homes.

“With this smart partnership, we can fulfil the state government’s target of building 100,000 affordable homes by 2023,” he explained.
