Johor govt to set environmental sustainability policy

JOHOR BARU (Jan 2): The Johor government intends to set an environmental sustainability policy for future development projects, the Star reported today.

The report quoting Johor local government, urban wellbeing and environment committee chairman Tan Chen Choon said the federal and state governments as well as and local authority (PBT) will continue to work together for sustainable development.

"We are continuously monitoring the situations in Johor through our agencies like the Department of Environment so that pollution incidents like at Sungai Kim Kim in March and Taman Mawar in June will not reoccur," Tan said after opening the Balau community centre in Taman Rinting here today.

“We have to make sure that policies or developments go through detailed inspections before being approved to make sure there is no harm to the environment,” he added.

The Star's article also reported that Tan gave assurances that the state government would always keep the public informed of any new policy or development that it planned to carry out.

He said this was in line with the Federal Government’s National Cleanliness Policy (NCP) that aimed to create a clean and comfortable environment to live in.
