KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 4): Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram, the lead prosecutor in Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor’s multi-million ringgit graft trial, has dismissed her lawyer’s claim that his client was suffering from “life-threatening” ailments as an “overdose of wealth and publicity”.

While slamming a request by her lawyer Datuk Jagjit Singh to adjourn court by a week as a last-ditch attempt by Rosmah to avoid court attending proceedings, he questioned her medical report.

“Cervical spondylosis, osteoarthritis for both knees? I suffer from that too,” he said.

“You see her only problem is (that) she is experiencing an overdose of wealth and publicity. If she had informed of her illnesses earlier, I would have accepted it. She should have gone to a government hospital for the check-up.

“We do not accept this medical report. If she was really unwell, she should have been examined last week. We see this as an act of bad faith,” he said, before proposing her bail should be revoked.

Jagjit had told the court that Rosmah had gone for a medical check-up on Sunday and was diagnosed with cervical spondylosis, osteoarthritis for both knees, as well as chronic adrenal insufficiency.

He had described her condition as “life-threatening”.

High Court Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan who is presiding over the case, has agreed to vacate yesterday and today and start her trial tomorrow (Feb 5) at 10am.

In 2018, she was charged with two counts of soliciting RM187.5 million for a solar power project involving rural schools in Sarawak worth RM1.25 billion and receiving a bribe of RM1.5 million involving the project.

In 2019, she was again charged for receiving RM5 million involving the same project.
