PETALING JAYA (Feb 24): Parti Amanah Negara has announced its full support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister and for him to continue to lead Pakatan Harapan.

In a statement signed by Amanah’s party president Mohamad Sabu, the party said it is standing with Pakatan Harapan and Dr Mahathir for a better Malaysia.

This comes after DAP said it wants to renominate Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the prime minister.

Earlier, the Prime Minister's Office issued a statement saying said Dr Mahathir has submitted his resignation letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at 1pm today.

The brief two-paragraph statement did not disclose the reason for his resignation.

His resignation comes after the top brass of Barisan Nasional, Bersatu, PAS and a group of MPs led by former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali met last night for a "special meeting", fuelling rumours of a new political coalition being formed to replace the current Pakatan Harapan administration.

Meanwhile,  Malaysiakini reported that the Bersatu supreme council will have an emergency meeting tonight at 8.30pm at their headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

Two supreme council members, Rafiq Naizamohideen and Muhammad Faiz Na’aman, confirms this when contacted by Malaysiakini.
