Chief secretary: Civil service will continue to function

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 25): Chief secretary to the government Mohd Zuki Ali has ensured that the civil service will continue on working smoothly even in the absence of a government, Malaysiakini reported today.

"Meeting with chief secretaries of the ministries to ensure services continue as usual for continuity and implementation of existing policies for the people and country," he says in a Twitter post.

Yesterday, Mohd Zuki announced that the Cabinet has been dissolved following the shock resignation of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister yesterday.

He said the King, Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, had consented to the revocation of the current ministers' appointment on the advice of the premier today (yesterday), as provided under Article 43 (5) of the Federal Constitution.

“As such, the duties of the administrative members (including the deputy prime minister, ministers, deputy ministers and political secretaries) have been halted on the same date,” Mohd Zuki explained.

Health Ministry Director General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also ensured that the dissolution of the ruling cabinet in Putrajaya “will not affect the government's effort in handling COVID-19”.
