KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 26): Tenants from three units of a public housing project (PPR) have been served an eviction notice for defaulting on their rental.

The defaulters from the Intan Baiduri PPR in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur have failed to settle their monthly rent of RM124 to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), racking up thousands of ringgit in arrears, including one amounting to RM17,000, reported The Star today.

DBKL Community Development and Urban Wellbeing Department director Anwar Mohd Zain said a red notice would be served if the tenants fail to comply with the 14-day eviction notice starting Feb 24.

The red notice is the final notice and tenants must move out within seven days. However, if they pay up within the notice period, the eviction notice will be retracted,” he said.

The errant tenants need to settle at least 50% of the outstanding amount, which can be done at the Menara DBKL 3 in Jalan Raja Abdullah.

Two of the tenants received the notice from DBKL personnel by hand, while the third had the notice posted on the door because he or she was not home.

According to an earlier report, PPR Intan Baiduri was the first to come under the scrutinising process by DBKL, to be followed by PPR Bukit Jalil.

As of Dec 31, 2019, DBKL is owed RM22.862 million in arrears from tenants who are still occupying these units. If we include previous tenants who had left, that figure would reach RM50 million,” Anwar said.
