KUALA LUMPUR (March 15): The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced that there are 190 new confirmed Covid-19 cases, bringing the tally to 428 in Malaysia.

The MoH revealed that most of the new cases are related to the cluster involving the tabligh assembly at the Sri Petaling mosque. It is estimated that there were more than 15,000 participants at the tabligh assembly between Feb 27 and March 1.

In a statement today, the MoH urged Malaysians not to circulate false or unverified information that will cause public panic. The ministry said it will update the public regularly on the latest status of the situation.

In the meantime, the MoH is calling on all participants at the tabligh assembly to contact their respective MoH district offices for necessary precautionary action to be taken. All the participants are placed under supervision and observation under Section 15(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988 for 14 days since the date they attended the tabligh assembly.

Likewise, all the patients under investigation (PUI) who do not meet the criteria for admission to hospital are also placed under supervision and observation under the same provision of the same Act.

The MoH also announced that seven Covid-19 patients have recovered and they have been discharged from Sungai Buloh Hospital. There have been 42 cured cases so far.

Malaysia is currently the country with the highest number of infected cases in the Asean region while Singapore is the second highest with 212 confirmed cases. The number of cases in Thailand increased to 114 today, Indonesia 117 and the Philippines 140, Vietnam 53, and Brunei Darussalam 40, according to official data.

Across the causeway, the Singapore government announced that people who enter the city-state with recent travel history to Asean countries, Japan, Switzerland or the UK will be issued a 14-day stay-home notice.

The city-state’s Health Ministry this afternoon said the measure will take effect from 11.59pm on Monday (March 16) and applies to all travellers, including Singapore residents, long-term pass holders and short-term visitors.
