KUALA LUMPUR (March 17): Genting Malaysia Bhd said the group has decided to temporarily close its Resorts World Casino New York City in the US due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement on Genting Malaysia’s website, the group said it decided to temporarily close Resorts World Casino New York City after careful deliberation with New York State officials and Genting Malaysia's partners at the New York Hotel Trades Council.

"The gaming floor is now under temporary closure. The parking garage and all guests food and beverage outlets are closed. All promotions, special events and free play offers have been postponed or canceled.

"We will continue to closely monitor information from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) regarding COVID-19 and follow additional guidance from New York State,” Genting Malaysia said.

Getting Malaysia did not specify in the statement the duration of the temporary closure.

At the 12:30pm break today, Genting Malaysia’s share price settled up one sen or 0.48% at RM2.11 for a market capitalisation of RM11.46 billion. The stock saw some 27 million shares traded.
