KUALA LUMPUR (March 21): Two more persons have succumbed to the COVID-19 disease, both in Sarawak, pushing the number of deaths from the viral pandemic in the country to six.

According to a statement from the Sarawak state disaster management committee, the patients, both from Kuching, were a 79-year-old woman and her 40-year-old daughter.

The older woman passed away at a private medical centre at 2am on March 18 while her daughter died at the Sarawak General Hospital today at 1pm.

“The delay in reporting the death of the woman was because the private medical centre where she was warded had to wait for the test result from a private laboratory in Kuala Lumpur,” said the statement from the committee.

The committee also stated that another family member who had tested positive for COVID-19 is still warded and on life support at the Sarawak General Hospital.

“The source for their infection is still being investigated,” it added.

Earlier, the Health Ministry reported the 4th death from COVID-19 at Melaka Hospital today.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 4th victim was a 50-year-old Malaysian man, known as Case 238 and was one of the many people who attended the mass tabligh event at the Sri Petaling Mosque last month.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced Malaysia today recorded 153 COVID-19 positive cases, bringing the total number of cases to 1,183
