KUALA LUMPUR (March 27): 130 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in the country as of noon today, bringing the number of positive cases in Malaysia to 2,161 — the fifth highest in Asia.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said three more people had died of the disease, bringing the death toll to 26. Meanwhile, 44 patients have recovered and have been discharged today, bringing the number of fully recovered patients to 259.

He also said 54 cases were being treated in the intensive care unit, with 34 of the patients needing ventilators.

Noor Hisham explained that the 24th person who succumbed to Covid-19 was a 35-year-old Malaysian man who had travelled to Indonesia. He was treated in Hospital Kuala Lumpur on March 18 and had perished on March 26.

The 25th case was an 83-year-old man who had a history of chronic illnesses. He was treated at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun on March 25 and breathed his last a day after he was admitted.

Meanwhile, the 26th fatality was a 53-year-old man who had close contact with a confirmed Covid-19 patient. He had been warded at the Sungai Buloh Hospital from March 22 and had perished this morning.
