KUALA LUMPUR (April 15): Lembah Pantai continues to be the worst-hit coronavirus hotspot in the country with 572 new cases or 1.34% of the country’s total (4,987) as of noon yesterday, according to the Ministry of Health.

Lembah Pantai located in Kuala Lumpur has topped 500 cases, which is higher than other countries in Asia such as Taiwan with 393 cases, Vietnam (267) and Brunei (136).

The number of total infections in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur has gone up 26% or 1,292 cases.

On March 31, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur had recorded 960 cases but the numbers kept rising until it reached 2,592 new cases of the country’s total (4,987) as of noon yesterday, according to the Ministry of Health.

Based on the infographic provided by the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), total red zones in Malaysia remain at 26, with Hulu Langat recording the second highest number of cases. It has registered 433 cases after adding 14 new infections from 419 cases on April 13.

Other red zones in Peninsular Malaysia include Petaling with 346 cases, Seremban (260), Kluang (201), Johor Bahru (183), Klang (164), Gombak (133), Kepong (126), Titiwangsa (116), Kinta (93), Kota Bharu (90), Kuantan (80), Cheras (73), Jerantut (70), Jasin (68), Sepang (66), Hilir Perak (65), Putrajaya (54), Rembau (53), Batu Pahat (51), Melaka Tengah (48) and Hulu Selangor (45).

In East Malaysia, Kuching has recorded 240 cases after adding 13 new infections from 227 on April 13, Tawau remains at 79 cases while Kota Samarahan added two more infections (51 cases).

Meanwhile, Kota Kinabalu in Sabah is now on the brink of being classified as a red zone with 40 cases recorded.

Five new positive Covid-19 cases were recorded in Sabah yesterday, bringing the tally in the state to 285.

Going forward, the government has completed sanitisation operations nationwide, including 26 red zones that have gone through the decontamination process, according to Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 daily recoveries have topped 200 cases for the third time, with 202 new recoveries.

This brings the total recovery rate in Malaysia to 2,478 cases or 49.7%.

The daily recoveries have exceeded the number of daily infections, which was 170. The tally of Covid-19 infections has increased to 4,987 cases, with five more fatalities reported, which include a foreigner and four Malaysians.
