KUALA LUMPUR (April 16): Adapting to home isolation can be challenging, what more for Jason van Genderen's mother who has Alzheimer’s disease.

In his heartwarming Facebook video, van Genderen who lives in New South Wales, Australia, shares how his whole family including his wife, son and daughter came together to set up a “Coles Supermarket” at home for his mother who has Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.

“[Since the home isolation started], her routine has really been thrown and she is just trying to make sense of what the week is. It’s just blown to pieces for her. One of the big things she hangs her week on is her weekly shopping trip but we can’t take her to the shops anymore. What we thought we’d do is to open up a supermarket for her at home,” said van Genderen in his video.

He then proceeded to bring her down from her room to the supermarket to do her ‘shopping’. In the video, she was beaming with delight when she reached the 'supermarket'. The trip ended with her paying for all her goods at the counter where her grandson was the cashier.

In times like these, it can be tough for caregivers at home but we can certainly get creative and make the best out of the situation.
