KUALA LUMPUR (April 16): Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 infections have jumped by 25 to 110 new cases, bringing the tally to 5,182 total cases as of noon today, according to the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, the number of daily recoveries is 119, exceeding the number of daily infections.

This brings the total recovery rate in the country to 2,766 cases or 53.4% of total cases.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that to date, a total of 56 positive cases were being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 29 of them on respiratory support.

One new Covid-19 fatality was recorded, bringing the death toll in Malaysia to 84.

The deceased was a 66-year-old Malaysian man who had chronic illnesses such as heart disease and high blood pressure.

He was admitted to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on April 9 and was pronounced dead at 12.55pm yesterday.

Selangor has recorded the highest number of confirmed infections with 1,329 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (952), Johor (614) and Negeri Sembilan (389).

Yesterday, Malaysia reported 85 new daily infections — the lowest figure since the Movement Control Order (MCO) was imposed on March 18.

The number of daily cases was also almost half of the 169 daily recoveries.
