PETALING JAYA (April 29): Perak state government is currently formulating four strategies to revive the state’s tourism industry, which was badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a China Press report.

Tualang Sekah state assemblywoman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi disclosed that the strategies will first focus on driving domestic demand but declined to reveal further details as the execution details are pending discussion after the Movement Control Order (MCO) is lifted.

She noted that there are many tourist destinations that could attract local consumers to visit Perak and the state government will emphasise on promoting these destinations to spur the local tourism market.

Recently, four hotels in Perak including Tower Regency Hotel, Kinta Riverfront Hotel, Marina Island Pangkor Resort & Hotel, Travelodge Ipoh have stopped operating due to lack of business.

“Some hoteliers have extended the close door period while reviewing their future operating strategies,” she added after witnessing the MoU signing ceremony between Digital Perak Corporation Holdings and Adventure 360 Sdn Bhd for online delivery service platform S.M.A.R.T Iftar @ Perak, which has been set up to allow merchants to run their businesses online during the Ramadan month.

According to the report, Nolee Ashilin said arrangements for the welfare of hotel staff and other related matters would be discussed after the MCO period as the government is still gathering more information about the matter.

On another note, she pointed out that selling home-cooked food is also allowed as long as the food is sold through delivery services.

She added that there are over 3,000 F&B operators participating the S.M.A.R.T Iftar @ Perak platform and another 4,000 riders have registered their services as well.
