KUALA LUMPUR (May 2): The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced 105 new confirmed infections, including 11 imported cases, as at noon today — the first time in slightly more than two weeks the daily new cases figure went above 100.

The number of active cases that have high transmission risk increased for second consecutive day to 1,747 today.

Of the 105 new infections, 63 cases are in Selangor, 14 are in Kuala Lumpur and one is in Johor. According to the MoH, 60 new infections are detected in the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) areas.

Meanwhile, 116 patients were discharged today, with the total number of recoveries climbing to 4,326, representing 70% of overall cases.

No death was recorded today; the death toll from the virus remains at 103.

Noor Hisham said the enforcement of the EMCO helps to flatten the curve of the Covid-19 pandemic.

So far, the ministry has detected 607 positive Covid-19 cases in 11 EMCO areas, 2,220 positive cases among the Seri Petaling tabligh cluster, 378 positive cases from students and staff of a tahfiz school that is related to the Seri Petaling tabligh cluster and 274 cases among Malaysians who returned from abroad.

There is an increase in imported cases and in other EMCO areas lately; however, Noor Hisham said the public should not be worried, because all the patients were isolated and given treatment.

The new confirmed cases brought the country's cumulative number of cases to 6,176 — the fourth highest in Asean.
