Land erosion on Jalan Silibin Indah, Ipoh

IPOH (May 14): Land erosion has impacted eight houses along Jalan Silibin Indah here, causing “the back portion of their houses to sink”, The Star reported today.

According to the report, the erosion took place around 2pm yesterday when some residents saw cracks on the walls of their homes while others found that their homes have become “unstable”, with the kitchen areas sinking.

“I have been staying here for the past 13 years, and this is the first time such an incident has occurred.

“I have a feeling that this is caused by spring water trapped underground because a river flows right at the back of our houses, ” resident Mohammad Rosli Mohammad Ginda, 57, an electrical engineer told The Star.

Jelapang assemblyman Cheah Pou Hian told the daily that he has informed the Drainage and Irrigation Department, who then informed Cheah that the matter was under the jurisdiction of the Ipoh City Council (DBI).

“I have informed the mayor of the incident, and he has assured me that the matter was being looked into.

“I'm worried if it rains tonight, the situation could be very dangerous for the residents involved, ” he said.

Cheah also informed the residents involved to “pack all their important documents and items, and be prepared to evacuate if there was a need to do so”.
