KUALA LUMPUR (May 31): Malaysia’s daily reported new Covid-19 cases increased to 57 as of noon today from the 30 announced yesterday, bringing the cumulative number of cases in the country to 7,819 cases so far.

During a press conference at Putrajaya today, health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said out of the 57 new cases, 10 were imported while 47 were local.  Of the 47 local cases, 43 involved non-Malaysians while four were Malaysians, Dr Noor Hisham said.

Of the 43 cases involving non-Malaysians, "24 cases were detected at the Sepang immigration detention depot cluster while 15 cases were detected in Pahang comprising three worker clusters,” said Dr Noor Hisham, who had also issued to reporters a press statement on Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 updates.

In the statement, he said there was one case each at the Sungai Lui Village and Pudu clusters.

He said there was also a case involving an illegal immigrant who is in the proses of being transferred to an immigration detention depot and another involving a factory worker in Klang.

He said there were no Covid-19-related deaths reported today and as such the cumulative number of fatalities remains at 115.

Dr Noor Hisham said 23 Covid-19 patients have recovered today and they were allowed to be discharged, bringing the cumulative number of patients who have recovered and have been discharged to 6,353 so far.
