KUALA LUMPUR (June 4): The 1MDB-Tanore trial will resume on June 29 as it has been vacated today to make way for the last leg of the SRC International Sdn Bhd trial.

As both cases involve former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak (pictured) as the accused, Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had sought to vacate the 1MDB-Tanore trial for today as the defence is currently in the midst of making their oral submissions in the SRC case.

Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah, who is presiding over the 1MDB-Tanore trial, has allowed this request and set June 29, July 1 and 2 as the next trial dates.

In December last year, Justice Sequerah set a range of new dates for the trial which were June 1 to 4, 8 to 11, July 20 to 23, 27 to 30, and the whole month of August except for Fridays.

Muhammad Shafee had informed Justice Sequerah that Najib would not be able to make in on July 13 and 14 as he will have to attend Parliament in his capacity as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pekan.

The judge agreed, but maintained that the trial will go on during the whole month of August.

When the trial continues on June 29, Najib’s lawyers are expected to resume cross-examination of 1MDB former chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, who is the ninth prosecution witness.
