KUALA LUMPUR (June 9): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has called in Sabah’s infrastructure development minister Datuk Peter Anthony to assist in a corruption investigation involving a slew of roadworks maintenance contracts issued by the Sabah state government.
Sabah MACC director Karunanithy Y Subbiah, when contacted by theedgemarkets.com, confirmed that Peter was called in to have his statement taken to assist investigations involving the contract award.
Peter, who is also a vice-president of Parti Warisan Sabah, reportedly turned up at Sabah’s MACC headquarters at the Sabah Federal Government Administrative Complex, Kota Kinabalu at 10.20am today.
Last month, Sabah Umno called for the anti-graft agency to investigate allegations that Peter was involved in the issuing of contracts worth RM1.55 billion under the ministry led by Peter, which was done via direct award.
In February, Peter reportedly threatened to sue a local portal for making said allegations, citing that the ministry was not involved in direct negotiation with any contractor in Sabah.
