KUALA LUMPUR (June 18): As Covid-19 infections in Malaysia continue to decline — with active cases today plunging to 408, a level last seen before the movement control order (MCO) was enforced on March 18 — the country’s hardest hit city, Kuala Lumpur, is now free of Covid-19 red zones.

This follows a huge drop in the number of active cases in Cheras, down by as much as 96.76% to nine patients today, from 278 patients yesterday, when the district was still a red zone, the Ministry of Health (MoH) data showed.

The MoH has three categories of Covid-19 zones: Red zones are defined as districts with at least 41 active Covid-19 cases; yellow zones have one to 40 cases; while green zones have no active case.

Cheras is now a yellow zone, along with Lembah Pantai (15 active cases), Titiwangsa (three active cases) and Kepong (six active cases) in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.

This brought total active cases in the capital city down to 33 from 300 reported yesterday.

According to data provided by the MoH’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), the total number of active cases in the country in the two-week period from June 5 until noon today was 159, down from 422 reported a day earlier.

The ministry said active cases detected during the two-week period were local transmissions involving Malaysians and non-citizens, and all the patients were getting treated in hospitals.

The number also excluded interstate and inter-district infections.

Rembau, Negeri Sembilan remained the only red zone in Malaysia with a total of 43 cases as of noon today.

In Selangor, Hulu Selangor remained a green zone as no active case was recorded in the health district in the two-week period.

Eight health districts in Selangor were yellow zones, namely Kuala Langat with 10 cases, followed by Hulu Langat (nine), Sepang (seven), Kuala Selangor (six), Gombak (five), Sabak Bernam (three), Klang (two) and Petaling (one).

Across the country, all health districts in Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Johor stayed on the green zone list.

In Peninsular Malaysia, Negeri Sembilan — the state with the most cases — had 47 active cases, followed by Melaka (five), Pahang (three), Johor (three) and Perak (one).

Over in East Malaysia, Sabah had 14 active cases and Sarawak had 12, while Labuan had one.
