KUALA LUMPUR (June 26): The Ministry of Health reported six new Covid-19 cases today — five of which were imported cases, meaning only one case was locally transmitted.

The single local transmission involved a Malaysian citizen who was detected through a workplace Covid-19 screening in Kuala Lumpur, according to MoH director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

No local transmission among non-citizens was reported today, he added.

This also means that Malaysia has recorded its fourth straight day of single-digit new Covid-19 infections.

"Today is the 17th day since the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) came into effect on June 10.

"MoH is pleased to announce that new Covid-19 daily cases have been maintained at single-digit for four consecutive days beginning June 23, 2020. In fact, daily cases of local transmission among Malaysian citizens are fewer than five cases for six consecutive days," Noor Hisham said during the ministry's Covid-19 press briefing today.

Meanwhile, 23 more patients have recovered, pushing the total recoveries to 8,294 cases or 96.4% of overall cases.

This leaves 191 active cases in the country - the first time the figure has ever gone down below the 200-level.

Dr Noor Hisham also updated that there are now two patients being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with no patients requiring breathing assistance.

No new deaths were recorded today, said Noor Hisham, so the death toll remains at 121 or 1.41% of overall cases.

"In comparison, the recovery rate of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia (96.4%) is among the highest among Asean countries. Besides that, the Covid-19 mortality rate in Malaysia is also among the lowest in the world. No case of Covid-19 death has been reported in the past 12 days," Dr Noor Hisham said.

"If we look at the statistics, it is indeed encouraging for further reopening of various sectors in an orderly manner to improve the economy of the country.

"However, it is worth noting that the war against Covid-19 is not over yet. The public are encouraged to remain vigilant and be always compliant with the SOPs and the recommendations made so that together we can break the chain of Covid-19 infection in Malaysia," he added.
