PETALING JAYA (July 1): The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) centre in the tourism ministry has been closed “until further notice”, according to a report by FMT.

CEO of The Expat Group (TEG), Andrew Davison told the news portal via email that the closure seems to be the result of a “major disagreement between the immigration and tourism ministries about the programme itself”.

Davison also revealed that “no one was allowed to submit any application relating to MM2H visas”.

“Now, it is not clear what will happen as there is no place to submit the applications.”

There have also been problems regarding MM2H visa holders still stuck in other countries with the centre telling Davison that “they will try and approve all the active cases by today”.

Davison said that such developments have “put the future of the programme in doubt”, and adding that “some people in government” were opposed the scheme.

As for recent applications, Davison said “a staggering 90%” have been rejected, which he felt “was unprecedented”.

“My agency had two rejections which we are confident would have been approved in the past,” he told FMT.
