KUALA LUMPUR (July 11): Police in Melbourne yesterday tailed a large KFC order to catch a group celebrating a birthday in the wee hours of Friday amidst a lockdown in the city.
According to a report by The Guardian of the UK, the “infringement of stay-at-home directions” was “discovered” when two persons ordered up “20 meals” at the KFC outlet in the suburb of Dandenong at about 1.30am on Friday
The report stated that the large order “raised suspicion among ambulance workers at the store” who then reported the incident to the cops.
Police followed the car and the fried chicken to a townhouse where the culprits “then tried to hide in the backyard, garage and under beds”.
Victoria state police commissioner, Shane Patton told the media that “16 fines for breaching coronavirus restrictions were issued at the party”.
“That is absolutely ridiculous that type of behaviour, and it’s a very expensive night.
“That’s A$26,000 (RM77,000) that birthday party is costing them. That’s a heck of a birthday party to recall and they’ll remember that one for a long time,” said Patton.
According to a Reuters report today, Victoria recorded 216 new cases of Covid-19 in the 24 hours to Saturday morning
Melbourne is in lockdown this week over concerns that community transmission was causing a second wave of the disease.
“It will get worse before it gets better,” Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews told the media today.
