KUALA LUMPUR (July 18): Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 infections are down to a single digit again with nine new cases reported as of noon today, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The number of daily infections turned into double digits yesterday with 18 cases, after posting four straight days of single-digit cases since Monday.

Today’s new cases brought the country’s tally of Covid-19 infections to 8,764.

The number of active cases stood at 96 at present, up from 92 reported yesterday. One patient remained in the intensive care unit with none requiring ventilator support.

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said five more patients have recovered and were discharged from hospitals today, bringing the current rate of recoveries to 8,546 (97.5% of the total cases).

According to his statement, no new Covid-19 deaths were reported today, with the death toll standing at 122.

Of the nine new cases, four were imported cases involving three Malaysians and one foreigner who is married to a local citizen. These cases were traced to Indonesia, Singapore and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, five were local transmissions related to four Malaysians and one asymptomatic foreigner who was screened before departing to Malaysia from China. The foreign patient has been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital.

Of the four newly infected Malaysians, one was a close contact of the Mambong cluster, one was detected from a pre-screening procedure at Bau Hospital in Kuching, Sawarak, while two were related to a new cluster known as the Stutong cluster.
