KUALA LUMPUR (July 22): The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced the discovery of two new clusters today, namely the Hyde Park cluster found on a ship in Port Klang, Selangor and the PUI Melbourne cluster in Sarawak.

These two new clusters have a total of six confirmed infections.

In the Hyde Park cluster, the index case (patient No 8,769) is a Russian member of a shipping crew, who has a history of travelling to Egypt and India.

This cluster was detected during a Covid-19 screening prior to the patient's return to their home country.

As of noon today, 24 people had been screened, of which 20 tested negative while four tested positive.

"All positive cases in this cluster involve foreigners. They were treated at the Sungai Buloh Hospital while all close contacts who tested negative have been quarantined on the ship," said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

According to his statement, this cluster is imported and isolated aboard a ship, hence it does not pose a risk of transmitting Covid-19 locally. In addition, disinfection and decontamination processes have been carried out aboard the vessel.

Meanwhile, two positive cases have been confirmed from the PUI Melbourne cluster.

"The index case is a Malaysian student (patient No 8,749) who returned from Australia on July 15, 2020. The patient took two flights, from Melbourne to KL, and then from KL to Kuching.

Upon arriving at Kuching, the patient was admitted to a quarantine centre, and tested positive for Covid-19 last Friday.

"The patient was asymptomatic and sent to Sarawak General Hospital," added Noor Hisham.

The second case of the PUI Melbourne cluster also took the same plane, from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching, with the index case.

Twenty-one close contacts detected from the passengers of the plane including public transport have been screened and are still awaiting results.

However, the source of infections is still under investigation.

There are 19 active clusters in the country, where four clusters including the Stutong and Sentosa clusters in Sarawak recorded new infections today.

According to data provided by the MoH, the Stutong cluster has three new cases, bringing total cases in the cluster to six, meanwhile, the Sentosa cluster reported one new case, resulting in a total of seven.

Malaysia logged 16 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, pushing the number of active cases in the country to 142.

This brought the total infections in the country to 8,831.

Four Covid-19 patients have recovered and discharged, bringing the total recovered patients from Covid-19 to 8,566, which represents 96.9% of total cases.

The ministry said no new additional death cases related to Covid-19 were reported today. Thus, the total cumulative death cases in Malaysia remain at 123 (1.39% of overall cases).
