KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): Malaysia detected 13 new Covid-19 cases today, down from 23 yesterday, but remained in the double-digit range for the third straight day.

This brought the total number of confirmed positive cases in the country to 8,897.  As the number of new cases also outpaced daily recoveries, which stood at six, this pushed the number of active cases to 173. Total recoveries now stood at 8,600, representing a recovery rate of 96.7%.

One new death was reported, which raised the death toll in the country from the virus to 124. This translated into a mortality rate of 1.39% of overall cases. The death involved a 63-year-old woman in Kuching, Sarawak, who suffered from diabetes, high blood pressure and hypercholesterolemia.

As for the 13 new cases, 10 were domestic transmissions, while the remaining three were imported — comprising one Malaysian returnee and two foreigners — who brought their infections into the country from Pakistan, Indonesia and Kazakhstan respectively.

From the domestic transmissions, nine involved Malaysians, while one was a foreigner. Seven of the domestic transmissions were from the Bukit Tiram cluster in Johor, while Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak each reported a positive case.
